The practice

[ what we do ]

Personal fitting

Face, prescription, habits, wardrobe — a fitting is a conversation, not a transaction. Expect honesty over flattery.

Repairs & adjustments

Done in-house, at the shop, usually while you wait. Frames bought here are looked after here.

House calls

Local to the neighborhood? We come to you — collect your frames, inspect them, service them to the best of our abilities, and return them to your door.

Hotel pickup & return

Visiting Washington? We'll collect your frames, service to the best of our abilities, and return them before you check out.

Non-clinical boutique — for eye exams we will happily point you to neighborhood optometrists.

[ the neighbors ]

One of the last true mom-and-pop shops — a counter, two names, and a chair waiting in Adams Morgan.

His hands, her care — one counter.

Efrain Perez learned his craft the long way — more than forty years as an optician in New York City, working with patients from around the globe. Yolanda Dobles built her career in HR management in New York and Virginia. In April of 2026, they opened Ocula Boutique Eyewear in Adams Morgan, DC — his hands, her care, one counter.

Mom-and-pop is not nostalgia here; it is the service model. The people who fit your frames are the owners, and they will remember your face when you come back. Come in, try things on, disagree with us. That is what the chairs are for.

The regulars

Efrain has made dozens of frames for Samuel L. Jackson.

Forty years at the shop builds a clientele. The same hands, the same standard — whether the face is famous or it is yours.

Questions

[ before you visit ]
01Do you take insurance?+

We don't take insurance directly. If you bring a copy of your allowance, we'll work to get close to — or match — it, while giving you a better product than the plan would. If your plan includes free frames or lenses, we'll turn that into a discount.

02Do you do eye exams?+

Bring your current doctor's prescription, or a pair of glasses with a satisfactory prescription, and we will handle the rest — and if you need an exam, we are happy to point you to neighborhood optometrists we trust.

03Do you do transition lenses?+

We do better — XTRActive lenses, which turn 75 to 85% darker than standard transitions.

04Do you do progressive lenses?+

Yes — high-end digital lenses, finished with a 10-layer anti-reflective coating and a blue-defense coating for computer use.

05I'm having problems with my progressive lenses. Can you help?+

We'll have to evaluate and determine exactly what's wrong. Your explanation and our examination will determine that. If we can, we will.

06Can you help with new lenses, frames, or repairs?+

Most repairs and adjustments happen in-house at the shop, usually while you wait. Come in and we will take a look.

07I'm only in Washington for a few days — can you still help?+

We'll help to the best of our abilities — from pick-up to drop-off. Tell us where you're staying, we'll collect your frames, service them at the shop, and return them before you check out.
